Stakeholders’ knowledge is one of the essential elements of biodiversity management. This research assesses local communities’ knowledge and its impact on the perceived biodiversity loss in the Sorkhabad Protected Area of the Zanjan Province using a quantitative (descriptive-correlational) methodology. A sample of 250 out of all rural households dependent on the protected area (N = 5095) was identified using Cochran's formula as the sample size who were selected by a multi-stage random sampling technique. The results showed that the respondents' knowledge about the ecosystem services and the challenges of biodiversity was at high and moderate levels, respectively. The results of regression analysis showed that the variables of knowledge about ecosystem provisioning services, knowledge about the impact of human factors related to unsustainable local community activities on biodiversity, knowledge about the impact of poor community livelihood conditions on biodiversity, knowledge about the impact of factors related to ineffective intervention conditions on biodiversity and knowledge about the impact of natural hazards to biodiversity accounts for 52 percent of the variance of perceived biodiversity loss in the protected areas.

Biosecurity is a key factor in the economic productivity of rural family poultry units, as an effective component of rural household livelihoods; As well as the control and transmission of common diseases between humans and animals or the spread of other infectious agents. Knowledge is one of the most important factors in observing biosecurity. The purpose of this study was to investigate the biosecurity level of rural family poultry units in Maragheh Township and the factors related to it. The research paradigm was a mixed method. The statistical population of the study consisted of local poultry farmers (rural households) in Maragheh villages. Data were gathered through interviews, observation, and a valid questionnaire from 224 rural women. These women were selected with a multi-stage randomized sampling method. Samples of the qualitative part were selected and studied by purposeful sampling and snowball. The results showed that 78.1 percent of units had a low level of biosecurity. The knowledge of 80.8 percent of rural women regarding poultry was medium. Most owners did not use vaccines and veterinary services. The birds’ cages were not disinfected or cleaned. Knowledge and education about poultry production had a positive significant correlation with the biosecurity level of units but owners’ age and yearly income had a negative correlation with the biosecurity level. The weak status of biosecurity is partly due to the owners’ low poultry production knowledge and partly due to the open space living place of the units. The reasons and motivations to observe each of the biosecurity principles were studied qualitatively.

Given the rise in popularity of ecotourism, investigating its impacts on the local community is of great importance. Thus, this study aimed to analyze ecotourism’s effects on the empowerment of local communities. In this regard, based on the empowerment wheel conceptual framework (Mendoza-Ramos, 2013) a survey was conducted in Savadkuh County. The sample size was calculated to be 240 people according to Daniel's sampling formula and was accessed through the convenience-sampling method. Data were collected through a questionnaire, the validity of which was approved by a panel of experts and construct validity (AVE Index). The reliability of the questionnaire was approved by calculating Cronbach's alpha and composite reliability (CR). The data were analyzed by SPSS22 and Smart PLS software. Besides the confirmation of indicators’ homogeneity and reliability, the results of confirmatory factor analysis confirmed that local community empowerment's measurement model had five components (i.e. psychological, environmental, political, economic, and social). In addition, results revealed that the total mean score of local people empowerment was 3.1 out of 5. The highest mean scores were for the psychological (3.35) and environmental (3.22) dimensions of empowerment, respectively. The lowest mean scores were for the political (2.89) and economic (2.96) dimensions of empowerment, respectively. The social empowerment dimension (3.10) was almost at a moderate level. Accordingly, it is recommended to improve the political and economic empowerment of Savadkuh County’s local people through participatory approaches and facilitation techniques.

Ecological citizenship as an emerging type of citizenship means specific human responsibilities to protect the environment in a way beyond limited personal interests and thoughts. This study aims to analyze the content of the level of attention to the components of ecological citizen education in social studies textbooks in junior high school. To achieve this goal, the content analysis method has been used. Descriptive statistical methods such as frequency and percentage were employed to analyze the data. Frequency charts were used to present the data. Findings showed that in the social education textbooks of junior high school, a total of 63 cases have been paid to the education of ecological citizens, of which, 21 cases (33.33%) were related to Ecological knowledge, 19 cases (30.15%) were related to Ecological beliefs and attitudes, and 23 cases (36.50%) were related to Ecological behavior. The lowest frequency of prepending to ecological knowledge was in the 7th and 8th grades of junior high school (0.00). The highest frequency related to personal environmental behaviors was in the 7th grade of junior high school (44.44%), and for the sense of responsibility towards nature and its elements, the highest frequency was in the 9th grade of junior high school (44.44%). Based on these findings, many components in all aspects of ecological citizen education have been neglected. Given the existing crises in the field of human ecology and the effective role of curricula in resolving these crises, it is suggested that ecological education be given more attention by educational officials and policymakers.

Environmental education as a lifelong process that a major part of it is performed in the school environment has an undeniable role in improvement of environmental problems. Hence, investment in school environment to raise children aware of environmental issues requires sensitive teachers with positive attitudes in this context. This study aiming at reviewing the role of educational level on the environmental attitudes of teachers in Ahvaz middle schools reviewed the four-item criteria of environmental attitudes of teachers. A descriptive and surveying methodology was used in this study. Data collection tool was the Fernandez-Manzanal et al.(2007) evaluation of environmental attitudes questionnaire. This questionnaire consisted four criteria: “Need for Education about Environmental Problems”, “The Importance of Fieldwork and Activities for Environmental Education”, “Environmental Contamination and the Need for Conservation”, and “Environmental Protection Action” that distributes among 331 middle school teachers. The results of descriptive analysis of data and independent ANOVA test indicated significant difference between teachers’ educational level with criteria of “Need for Education about Environmental Problems” and “The Importance of Fieldwork and Activities for Environmental Education”

A great deal of the country’s energy resources are wasted for a number of reasons including inappropriate technology, low price of energy, and carelessness in energy consumption. Women can change the course of risky behaviors against environment. We decided to inform rural women, of the optimized energy consumption patterns and examine the effect of material and immaterial incentives on them. This was a semi-experimental study. There was no sampling, so all the women of Cheshmeh Sefid village in Kermanshah, who were over 13 years of age and made up a population of 68 women were studied. The instrument of the study was a 23- item questionnaire. Then they were randomly divided into two groups. One group was studied using material and the second used immaterial incentives. Improvement of these women’s awareness proved a positive effect. Regarding the awareness raise, there was no significant difference between learning and the kind of incentive. Material incentives proved to be more effective than immaterial incentives.

This paper reviews the social impacts of the construction and development of Fereidoonkenar Port on the City of Fereidoonkenar (Mazandaran province). The theoretical framework used in this study is based on Finsterbusch indicators analyzing environmental and social impacts. Statistics population includes the city of Fereidoonkenar and its surrounding suburbs. It is a qualitative research methodology and data collection methods have been implemented conducting interview. In this study, the unit of analysis is the individual. This research was conducted in the fall of 2000. The findings indicate that despite the construction and development of Fereidoonkenar Port wich is an immediate priority, this has a small role in local economic development, however, this appears to have growing influence in the future
