The study of environmental education effects on improving hospital waste separation (A case study: Hospital,Ahmadnejad Katalom city)

Abstract

One of the most important pollutions in environment is hospital waste. Separation of hospital waste should be performed at the starting point by the producer for management. This study examine the impact of environmental education on managing hospital staff, waste by medical personnel. The research method of this study was through census and single group of 49 people including Katalom Hospital staff a city near Ramsar in 2013. Through observed standardized questionnaire of the Environmental Protection Agency, the rate of hospital waste separation in the relevant checklist was determined. Then the demographic information, knowledge and attitude as well as the performance of hospital staff on hospital solid waste management were measured via another questionnaire. Questionnaires were re-filled after 6-hour training. Wilcoxon test showed knowledge, attitude and performance of medical personnel after training courses improved potentially, and considering the results of the T-test, it showed that the amount of waste separation increased to 100% after training. Therefore education training for waste separation in hospitals is recommended.
